The Smooth Jazz Cruise Sails in ’22!
It’s February 2021. We should be basking in the glow and warmth of the Caribbean and another amazing sailing season of The Smooth Jazz Cruise! Instead, for the first time after more than 17 years of cruises, an entire sailing season of The Smooth Jazz Cruise was postponed. But now, as smooth jazz fans from around the world are doing, it is time to renew our excitement and get ready for the three sailings of The Smooth Jazz Cruise ’22.
The lineups are set; our ship, Celebrity Summit, has completed the “Revolution” upgrade program; the fun and complicated task of programming the cruise has begun; and smooth jazz fans are buzzing about their return to sea. Both Diamond Celebration Sailings — The Smooth Jazz Cruise ‘22.1 and ‘22.2 — are over 95% reserved and only a handful of Ocean View and Inside Staterooms remain available.
The Smooth Jazz Cruise ’22: “Back to Sea”, which sails from January 24 – 31, 2022, and features George Benson and David Sanborn, our hosts Marcus Miller and Boney James, and the most stellar lineup ever, at this time has a better selection of Staterooms, including an inventory of Staterooms with balconies. That will not last long, but they are available now.
All 3 Sailings Are Amazing, But the First Sailing of
The Smooth Jazz Cruise in ’22 May Be the Best Cruise Ever!
How long has it been since The Smooth Jazz Cruise last sailed? Let’s check out the numbers. The last sailing of The Smooth Jazz Cruise ended on 1.25.20. The Smooth Jazz Cruise ’22: “Back to Sea”, the first of our three sailings of The Smooth Jazz Cruise in ’22, sails on 1.24.22. That is a hiatus of 730 days, well over 1 million minutes.
What have we missed during this time?
Welcoming the amazing smooth jazz fans that have sailed on The Smooth Jazz Cruise for years and years, and seeing the awestruck faces of those experiencing the cruise for the first time.
Walking into the Celebrity Theater for the Opening Show and seeing all the performers on stage ready and excited to be in front of the greatest fans in the world.
Enjoying the signature events of The Smooth Jazz Cruise, The T-Shirt Party, Gospel Hour, Late-Night Shows, One on One Interviews, Hanging with the Artists, and so much more.
Yes, all three sailings of The Smooth Jazz Cruise ’22 offer these elements, but imagine the emotions of our Artists on the first sailing being together for the first time in two years? They cannot wait to jump on that stage and let go! And what about our fans! They will be on the brink of hysteria when, finally, finally there will be live music performed by the very top performers in the world. And what an amazing lineup it is…
Rolling the lineup forward from our ‘20.2 sailing, along with the addition of two amazing superstars, has resulted in the #1 lineup in the history of The Smooth Jazz Cruise. If you think of the lineup as haute cuisine, you can see how this wonderful array of ingredients, spices and herbs will create a musical dining experience like no other.
The musical feast starts with our venerable Hosts Marcus Miller and Boney James. Genre toppers for sure. Our Special Guests are two legends of this genre and all of music, George Benson and David Sanborn. As menu items, they need no explanation.
The next layer of flavor comes from cruise perennials Brian Culbertson, Candy Dulfer and Jonathan Butler, a mirepoix of talent, style and charisma. Add a heaping helping of Alonzo Bodden, just for laughs, and some hearty portions of Rick Braun, Eric Darius, DW3, Euge Groove, Everette Harp, Paul Jackson, Jr., Jeff Lorber, Keiko Matsui and Peter White, to round out the main course portion of the meal.
If you stopped there, you would have an amazing feast, but the flavor profile is not complete. Vincent Ingala, Maysa, Damien Escobar, Brian Simpson, Larry Braggs, Marcus Anderson, Dave McMurray and Niki Haris are the next ingredients into the pot. No, we are not finished. No top-notch musical meal would be complete with Music Director Eric Marienthal or our favorite spices, the Red, Yellow and Blue Bands (Collin Clauson, Munyungo Jackson, Randy Jacobs, Gerey Johnson, Nate Kearney, Jr., Lamar Jones, Eddie Miller, Nate Phillips, Third Richardson, Kevin Turner, Jay Williams, Omari Williams). Now we are finished. It is time to enjoy.
Seriously, this is the most amazing, and appetizing, lineup ever. There is barely enough performance slots for all of these Artists.
But there is more. The Smooth Jazz Cruise ’22: “Back to Sea” cruise will be our first sailing on Celebrity Summit since its completion of the world-class Revolution upgrade. This renovation program included the installation of completely new staterooms that have wonderful amenities, including flat screen TVs, ample electrical outlets, new bedding, new carpeting, etc. The public areas are also improved and the Ocean View Café has been completely revamped. Celebrity Summit, post-Revolution, is gorgeous.
Next, and perhaps the only silver lining to the pandemic, we have been able to allocate large amounts of time to dissect and review every aspect of our programming, event planning and procedures for the cruise. Most of what we have done in the past remains either intact or slightly improved. But some items were cut, some will be brand new and some will be back after having been sidelined for a bit. Wait until you see what we are doing with Blu Restaurant for dinner and, for those seasoned enough to remember, we are bringing back The Crow’s Nest, the famous late-night haunt known for hijinks and more. It is time to put a little spice back into our late-night entertainment.
Finally, and most importantly, our guests will be together, on the cruise they love, for the first time in 2 years. We anticipate tears of joy, toasts and just plain relief that this aspect of life is back. The Smooth Jazz Cruise will sail three glorious times in 2022, but it only heads “Back to Sea” once. Join us.
